ARCCO has been participating on the Steering Committee for ArtsBuild Ontario, which has recently completed a needs assessment study and presented its findings with recommendations to the Minister of Culture and the Minister of Finance. ArtsBuild Ontario which is comprised of provincial ASO’s representing visual and performing arts has been providing leadership in developing a comprehensive strategy to address the chronic capital needs of small and mid-size arts organizations throughout the Province of Ontario. The members of the ArtsBuild Ontario are ARCCO, OAAG, Dance Umbrella of Ontario, PACT, Theatre Ontario and TAPA, ATFC, and Galerie du Nouvel-Ontario in collaboration with AGAVF. Our organizations and the memberships we serve share a deep concern about the state of arts infrastructure in this province, and the lack of long-term, sustainable funding by which to address the backlog of facility needs.
ARCCO plays an important role within ArtsBuild Ontario given that it represents numerous multi-disciplinary spaces in smaller cities in Ontario and it is the only organization with members that specialize in the production and presentation of contemporary media and technology-based arts. ARCCO’s participation ensures that the strategies and programs developed by ArtsBuild Ontario will serve not only the needs of traditional art galleries and performing arts facilities but also the facility needs of newer media and art forms being explored by Ontario’s artists.
